Exactly what we needed...
We bought two of these to mount our bikes in the back of my wife's (extra short bed) truck. I mounted them to a cargo bar that clamps into the truck bed so that they would be mounted securely, but easy to remove when not in use. I chose this version that doesn't include the locks so that we could pick out our own locks and get two locks that are keyed the same. These fork mounts work really well. Our first outing with them involved a 430 mile(round trip) road trip with a little mild off-roading in the middle. Our bikes were always held securely and never once did we think we'd bounce them out of the mounts (even on the trails). It might take a little practice at getting the tightness of the skewer on the mount just right, even if you are a pro at taking your front wheels on and off, because the skewer on the mount has an offset on one side and seems to have a longer throw than a wheel skewer. The long throw is an advantage though, because once the skewer is open, it will open wide enough to completely release the forks. This makes it less likely that you'll have to make adjustments to the "nut" end of the skewer every time you mount and dismount your forks. Other users have mentioned that the skewer lever is hard to move to the open position once it's been closed, but I had no issues with mine. I think it's a skewer tightness issue and it could be that the skewer was clamped down too tightly when it was closed. As far as quality goes, I'm really happy with how well these things are made (and I'm really picky). They are very durable and appear to be made of materials that will endure prolonged outside abuse, although ours live primarily in the garage. I'd say that this fork mount is a really good and affordable way to mount a bicycle to the bed of your truck.

I am buying another one
I like it, it is high quality, and it does lock. Main thing: super easy to install, super sturdy, rust proof and cost less than twenty bucks. It does hold the bike very well. Once locked, the bike is hitched solid, not going anywhere, at any speed, or any turn….I tried. Very easy to take the bike on and off the hitch in a minute or 2, and you can have four of these mounted on the rail in the back of the truck bed, easily carrying 4 bikes at the same time, without any bike moving or touching the other. No, I would not leave my composite road bike in the bed of the truck unattended, for more than 5-10 minutes in a public place. This is true with any bike carrier, nothing is 100% theft proof, not even inside a locked garage: somebody can cut open a typical aluminum garage door panel (with a pocket knife) to access the garage and steel the bike, if they really wanted to. I used big SS screws to mount the hitch to the back rail of the bed. I also used industrial epoxy on the screw shaft, and on top of the screw head, so it cannot be removed. You can also use epoxy on the nut, but not necessary if you have it tight enough. In fact, it is not easy at all to remove the nut, not even with locking pliers if tightened properly. Actually, it is easier to use a bolt cutter, to cut the padlock then to unscrew the nut. Is it theft proof? Absolutely not, best to have a huge 800 lbs. safe in the bed of the truck, and lock the bike in the safe and bolt the safe to the bed, and weld it. But then, someone can just steel the whole truck with the safe and the bike included.. Unless, of course, you hire a full time body guard to protect the bike, the safe and the truck

Great product and beefier than I originally thought
We have two bikes that we move around from time to time and we were laying them on their sides (on top of one another) in the back of the F-150. It was a little crazy to say the least when trying to remove them with peddles, spokes and gears sometimes intertwined. So I thought for a fork holder. I looked at several solutions and decided on this one for I have a truck box and didn't want to spend that much on solving this problem. Well when they showed up they were bigger and strong than I thought. No hardware was included, but that was fine with me, for I went out and bought some stainless 1/4" bolts and lock nuts for installation on the back of the truck box. I didn't want anything to rust and I believe most if not all of the components of this product are aluminum or some other type of alloy. They installed without any problem and worked great for two different types of bikes. It has an adjustment nut on the left side to adjust the compression on the lever when engaged. I got locks for them and I tried to pull one of the bikes out to see how strong it was. It didn't give at all. I am very pleased with the quality and construction and would recommend this to anyone who is tired of pulling two bikes apart in the bed of a pickup. Also the bikes traveled very well and didn't move at all over some tougher roads.

Outstanding Quality Fork Hitch for the Price
I use this in conjunction with the Delta Cycle Wheel Hitch and Saris Triple Track Bike Rack. The Delta hitches are very good quality for the price. The Bike Hitch Pro is solidly built and works fairly smoothly. The locking lever arm a great benefit when you need it, but if you've got a bunch of bikes and wheels mounted close together, and close to the interior of a truck bed, it can be slightly difficult to get at and a little cumbersome to tighten with just your hands, especially given the small size of the plastic nut on the opposite side from the locking handle. Other drawbacks include the hitch body and axle/screw being made of regular steel, (vs. stainless), so they would most likely rust if left exposed to the elements and ungreased for extended periods.and the end nut being made of plastic. I might recommend replacing that with a larger steel or brass nut that can be more easily tightened with your fingers.. I'd also make sure to use a hard material washer like Teflon or phenolic to prevent the nut from scratching your forks. Hard to reduce any give that might allow someone to remove the fork even when the hitch was tightened and locked.

Absolutely fantastic product
I'm an avid Do It Yourselfer and camp a lot with my wife. I'm constantly looking for innovative ways to store our gear. These fork mounts are heavy duty and work perfect for mounting on a pickup bed. I purchased a weather-treated 2x6 and cut to the width of the bed. I then mounted the board to the tie hold downs on each side of the pickup bed. This enables the board to be elevated off the bed by about 4 inches. I have an F150 and needed to bend the truck tie downs to form a 90 degree bend. Your pickup may have something similar. I then mounted the Delta Bike Hitch to the 2x6. We drove 500 miles last week and the bikes never budged or swayed. I'm extremely pleased with this product. Not sure why others has given low scores... we did not buy this to deter theft. Yes we use a padlock but we also use a quality bike lock to secure it to the truck.

Perfect Budget DIY Car Mount!
Last year I mounted two of these to my Ford Focus's trunk (where I was most comfortable drilling holes on my car). Put your front bicycle forks in the mount, and use 200# suction cups on the roof for the rear tire, or use a ratchet strap around the roof and interior to keep the rear tire in place. It may look a little bit odd when not in use, but when there is two mounts they are symmetrical and not out of place. Want to secure your bikes? Just add your bike's padlock that you use to lock it. I can probably put two bikes on my car in three or four minutes if I move fast, it's a quick and slick set-up. My rack is always there, ready to go. It's cheaper than anything a bike shop can offer in terms of roof rack mounts. Note: You want to have a front tire that comes off without tools, and without messing with your brakes too much. Most quality bikes have quick release tires and a brake mechanism allowing the tire to easily release. Others have said the back end can unscrew, which means it's not a safe locking mechanism. Not true! When you have your bike locked in, there is so much pressure on that nut that even if a thief had the perfect wrench, I'm pretty sure the nut would strip out before you could get that nut to move. Certainly it's not something that could be unscrewed by hand. If someone is going to steal your stuff, they will find a way, but this is just as secure as any quality bike lock. Con: If you have severe hand grip issues, it may not be the mount for you (you could use some sort of cheater-bar or wrench to compensate). It can take quite a bit of force to snuggly close and open the mount after a full day ride.

Very practical and cost effective
These are a great buy. I wanted to purchase a pair of these for my bike and my wife's bike, but I was looking for some that locked. I do like the ones that lock on the end, but they were very expensive. When I saw these I was very pleased to see how practical and cost effective they were. I purchased a pair of locks and they work great. Installation was a breeze. I installed them on my truck bed with some screws I had and they work like a charm. My biggest concern was that someone would be able to steal our bikes if I didn't get the locking fork mounts. These will certainly make a thief think twice about the effort it would take to steal our bikes. I got a cable bike lock that I use to secure the front tires to the truck bed as well. Now I can leave our bikes in the back of the truck and not worry about whether or not they will be there when I come back out to my truck.

Make the cheapest bike rack ever!
Two of these, plus a few nuts and bolts, and a piece of wood, and you can make yourself a bike rack for way less than any car bike rack on the market today. Just bought two of these, a common pine board 10" wide, cut to the width of our truck bed, mount these to the board, then attach to the truck with a few bolts and voila...bike rack! What I love about these fork mounts is that it tucks the bikes below the top of the truck roof, so we keep the bikes out of the wind and elements. Also much better for the aerodynamics of the vehicle. If you own a truck, it's the cheapest and best way to make a bike rack. The item itself is very nicely thick aluminum. I've had no issues with the closure mechanism, and the ones we received had a short piece of webbing on the QR to help open it up. As far as other reviewers talking about the locking aspect being useless, it is true that one can theoretically unscrew the opposite side of the mount and remove the bike, but there is some kind of bushing or o-ring which makes that side more difficult to turn, even when free. Plus, when properly tightened, the tension makes the smooth nut very hard to turn. I guess if a thief had a pair of vice grips they could open it up, but I don't think the intent of this is to lock your bike up in the worst part of town and leave it overnight. If you are driving somewhere and need to make a pit stop, the lock is enough of a deterrent for those 5-minute scenarios. I think this is a great product, and makes the cheapest, best bike rack.
