Works great!
I couldn't initially see my drive at all on my Windows 10 PC - absolutely nothing happened when I plugged in the USB. I finally figured out it was because the drive was a new one and not formatted. Windows is too stupid to let you know that you have attached an unformatted drive and give you formatting options, so you need to do a couple of things:Search in the Task bar for 'disk management' and you should find a built-in tool for formatting and partitioning drives. Run the tool and you'll be prompted to create a new volume on your USB drive (yes, Windows CAN actually see your USB drive even though it kept quiet about it up to now). Once you've created the volume, you need to format it (right-click on the new volume to see formatting options). Now it will behave like any normal USB drive and Windows will recognize it whenever you plug it in.

Wonderful
I blame my own ignorance, for not knowing that this type of connector existed with its own power cable. It's a fantastic little tool, for those who have to constantly dig through their old files, from old hard drives. Just plug it to the wall, plug it to the hard drive, and then insert the USB to a PC, and you're set. It powers up the hard drive immediately, and you can just put your feet up and browse. If you get one without a power source, like I did a while ago, you'll have to use your old PC's power source to get the hard drive going, which is a nuisance. I would have to reach into my old PC, disconnect the hard drive from the motherboard, while leaving it connected to the power. Then activate my old PC, just to power the hard drive, while connecting the old USB to SATA, to the short wire, all while balancing the PC husk on my leg. Sigh, good times. This completely eliminates the need for anything like that, so learn from my mistakes, and research before you buy!

Don't buy if you have Win 10. Seems to work fine with Win 7.
Doesn't work with any of our four Win 10 PC and laptops. I tested it with four WD 1 TB and 2 TB drives (two of which were new). Oddly, when I tried it with an ancient white Macbook we no longer use, it worked well.I initially wrote a one star "doesn't work" review. Then while reading about other competing products, I decided to try it on an old PC in my shop. It works just fine with Win 7 on all four drives.Keeping review at two stars because the compatibility issue need to be much more prominent in the Amazon listing.

Gets the job done for a reasonable price; easy enough for a novice to use
Couldn't have been easier. Had a desktop motherboard die on me and wanted to retrieve the data and move it to another system. Pulled out the hard drive, plugged it into the adapter, connected it to a power source, plugged to the USB cable into the new system, and started browsing the old files. Easy peasy. So easy relative novices to PC hardware should be pretty comfortable with it.Just about everything you need is in the box, aside from a screwdriver and the know how on how to pull the drive you want to access from your computer. Otherwise, it has a power cable, adapter, and USB (2.0).One thing to keep in mind s that your drive will generate a lot of heat when using it. That means you should either avoid using it for a log continuous session, or ensure you cool it someone. (In my case, I had it sitting on some ice packs wrapped in a few layers of plastic bags when doing a large, 300gb transfer.)Gets the job done for a reasonable price. That's all I can ask.

Cannot use to clone old 512 sector size drive to newer 4k sector size drives
If you want to use this to connect to a hard drive to move files around, it should be ok. I was able to see the new hard drive (a WD Blue 4 TB internal hard drive) and format it. However I was not able to clone my old drive to this drive. The problem is my old hard drive has 512 sector size, and I learned that USB to SATA cables such as this don't allow for 512 emulation even when the disk supports it (as my new drive does). So none of the cloning software allowed me to clone my old drive to this new one - which is why I bought the cable. I tried Acronis, Macrium Reflect and EASEUS. Thie first two reported they could not clone because o the incompatible target sector size. EASEUS just wasted my time trying to do the close and then failing hours later.Bottom line - if you need this cable to copy files over it works fine. If you need it to close drives, the 512 emulation does not work with the usb cable so you won't be able to clone an older drive to a newer one with 4k sector size using this cable.

Very functional, great price, easy to use, very adaptable due to no housing
I used this a few times. Connected to a 2.5 inch hard drive from a laptop and a 3.5 inch hard drive from a desk top. Was able to review all the files and save whatever I needed elsewhere. Then I was able to reformat each HDD (2.5 into 160 GB backup) (3.5 into 250 GB backup). Took all of 15 minutes to do everything and to put the adapter back into its box for future use. Worked great and I never even looked at any instructions. Well worth the price to not only save any needed files but also to create two new USB storage device (akin to hue memory sticks). Very functional. And as the advert says, 2.5, just plug it in. 3.5 needs the power adapter. Highly recommend the adapter for one other reason. With no enclosure, you plug any physical size HDD into the adapter and need not worry about fitting into a housing - I do have one other, older fully contained unit that houses the HDD - I had to be very prepared and matched model numbers to ensure all would fit into the housing. There is no such concern here. You simply plug this into the HDD socket.

Works Well No Problems
I bought a couple of new SSD's and got this to clone one of them for my laptop. The vendor version of Acronis actually worked well which surprised me as I had stopped using Acronis several years ago because it wouldn't work correctly. Cloned my Win 10 drive without issue, and then used this to upgrade my wifes desktop and it worked perfectly there as well. I didn't have to use the supplied power supply as there was enough power through the USB ports to clone both of the Crucial MX500 drives. Did the job without any issues whatsoever.

Excellent product at a great price!
Great product. Arrived quickly. Worked perfectly. This SATA drive connector was a real life saver!I was able to retrieve priceless family photos from the hard drive of a desktop computer which died years ago. Before seeing this UGREEN product, didn't think there was a connector available at such a bargain price to retrieve files from a SATA drive.

Works as advertized, but only USB 2.0
The separate DC power brick was handy for transferring data to a 3.5" drive, and it solved my data issues. I thought it was USB 3.0 or higher, which can transfer data at about 600MB/s. This one is only USB 2.0, and my maximum performance was 40MB/s. I was planning on using it to back up SSDs (250GB) so I returned it and bought a USB 3.0 one for the 15x speed increase. It does work perfectly, it's just too slow for me.

Reliable Adapter that works well
This is my second UGREEN Sata to USB adapter. I bought a USB 3.0 and USB 2.0) and both work flawlessly, fitting perfectly into sata connections on hard drives, SSD and DVD optical drives. For both units I bought the version with the included power adapter. A reliable adapter that works well.

Works great. Saved the day and some money
Works great. Plug and play. Saved me so much money from having to take my old laptop and desktop harddrives to a store to be copied. Don't have to use it every day but it sure is nice to have around. Really though, if I never use it again, it was still way cheaper to buy this and rescue my harddrives myself than have a store do it.

Does what it needs to do
Product works exactly as it should. Just connect the hard drive to it and plug the usb end into your computer and it should come up as a storage device. If it's a 3.5" hardrive you'll need to plug in the outlet adapter to give it more power. I have no complaints so far and it's helped me transfer over many gigabytes of data.
