Now 49: That's What I Call Music / Various

I started buying the Now! series a while back and have been very happy with it. I continue to buy each new release as they come. If you enjoy Pop music or have kids that do, this is a great collection.I am generally against compilation albums, but there are several reasons I like this compilation:Music is edited versions where necessary making the disks family friendlyThe songs are the real artistsThe mixes are generally the one you are used to.The quality of the recordings are consistent and the disks are well mastered.The disks consistently have great songs that have significant airplayPop artists seem to have very few good songs on their albums beyond those that are hits in my opinion. It is as though they had come up with 8 other songs fast in order to publish an album with the one good song. There are of course exceptions and other genres I much prefer to collect the artists CD's and often find music I enjoy better than the hits, not so much with pop.This all matters to me because I have children who listen to music and want digital copies for their devices. For some unknown reason MP3 versions cost the same or more as they do on CD and they are inferior copies of the original on the disc. As such rather than paying $2 a song for mp3s, I buy the disc. With Amazon.com AutoRip I automatically get the MP3 version as well.Making the MP3 versions of these songs available to my kids means that they are not out browsing the web, in unscrupulous areas trying to download illegally copied versions of this music. Kids these days will get the music they want one way or another. I prefer a safe method.This disk opens with four mega hits in a row, 'Timber', 'Royals', 'Wrecking Ball' and 'Unconditionally' are all great songs that any fan of Pop music will recognize and enjoy. The music then slows down a bit with a great ballad 'Story of My Life' a very touching song. Next up the disc really slows down to "Say Something".I am seldom impressed by the "Free Tracks", but then again they are "Free Tracks".

I collect these.

This Now disc is great. I play it in my car going place to place. What makes it even better, is that my grandchildren love it too when we are going on one of our "adventures". We all sing to our favorites

I ordered this CD from Amazon & I rec'd it on March 20, 2014. This CD contains Top 40 hit singles from the Autumn of 2013 & some are STILL appearing on the TOP 40 Charts, for the week ending March 15, 2014. "Now 49" has 5 BONUS Tracks, just like "Now 33" from 2010 did. I'd like to offer my song by song review, as follows:1. "Timber"...This song is STILL in the TOP 10, as of 03/15/2014. This song is pretty good.2. "Royals"...I feel that THIS song is rather OLD & should have been incl., on "Now 48", instead. This song is okay, but I prefer THEIR current hit single "Team" much more. I saw "Royals" performed on The Grammy Awards on Sunday, January 26, 2014.3. "Wrecking Ball"...I first heard this song in October 2013, but I NEVER got tired of THIS song, because it's just that good, in my opinion. I think that this song was performed on Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve on December 31, 2013. And I definitely saw this song performed on The Grammy Awards on January 26, 2014.4. "Unconditionally"...I was rather surprised that THIS song DIDN'T hit the #1 spot, like a lot of Katy Perry's OTHER hits did. This song is pretty good, by the way.5. "Story Of My Life"...This song is currently in the TOP 10 & it's pretty good.6. "Say Something"...This song is ALSO in the Top 10 & I rate it as ONLY okay!7. "Demons"...This song is okay.8. "Counting Stars"...This song is ALSO in the TOP 10 & I like it a lot.9. "Hold On, We're Going Home"...Just like "Wrecking Ball", this hit, by Drake, I first heard in October 2013 & it's STILL in the TOP 30. I never got tired of this song, either. And I really like this song a lot.10. "Do What U Want"...I think that Lady Gaga performed THIS hit on Her Thanksgiving Special, w/ Elton John as one of her guest stars, on November 28, 2013. I really LOVE this song a lot & her 2013 "Artpop" album is GREAT, too.11. "Work Work"...I didn't think I heard "Work Work" AS MUCH, as these OTHER HITS, incl., here. I first heard "Work Work" in October 2013 & I don't even know if this song went very far, chart wise, but I really LOVE this song a lot. It's practically my FAVORITE on this compilation.12. "Burn"...This song is ALSO in the TOP 10 & it's pretty good.13. "Stay The Night"...This song is now in the Top 30 & it comes from Zedd's "Clarity" album. The title track, "Clarity" was also BIG on the TOP 40 Charts, in 2013.14. "TKO"...I wasn't as familiar w/ this song. It seems okay, though.15. "Gorilla"...I wasn't too familiar w/ this song, either. I'm NOT as crazy about THIS song, either.16. "Drink A Beer"...I like this country song, it's pretty good.Five FREE Tracks from Up & Coming Artists:17. "Last Love Song"...I wasn't too crazy about this song.18. "Trouble"...I believe that THIS song has got American Top 40 Hit potential & I really hope that "TROUBLE" will make it, on THIS YEAR'S charts. I think it's a real DECENT song, which I've played the MOST since I rec'd this CD. I believe that I FIRST heard of Natalia Kills, in 2011, when she was feat. on LMFAO's brief hit "Champagne Showers" from their "Sorry For Party Rocking" album.19. "Show Me What You Got"...I like this song, it's not too bad.20. "Doesn't Get Better"...Here is ANOTHER song, that I also think has that TOP 40 Hit potential. I like this song a lot & I hope it will also appear on THIS YEAR'S charts.21. "Alienation"...This song was released in 2014, making it brand new. This song is okay.This "NOW 49" compilation is recommended. I held off for a short time buying it, because a lot of these songs are STILL charting, on the radio. But I decided to buy this CD after all, so that I could keep current w/ my "NOW" collection.

When nothing is on the radio but bickering adults and commercials I pop this baby on. I love all the songs and the CD works perfectly. I actually collect NOW and have every single one. Can't wait for the next to be released!

We have purchased the consecutive NOW music CDs and have found them to have a wide variety of music from great artists.If you don't want the entire collection of one artist's music, you get a good sample of many on these CDs.

THIS CD IS GREAT THE ARTISTS DESERVE TO BE ON THIS CD I USUALLY BUY THEM AS SOON AS THEY HIT THE STREET I LOVE ALL THE MUSIC ON IT ESPECIALLY SINCE MY TASTE IN MUSIC IS SO VERSATILE. BUY BUY BUY

Loved this CD. I bought it years after its release as I wanted to fill gaps in my Now collection. I am glad I bought it as I found it great to listen to all the old favourites again.
