Yes it IS a variable amperage control...

First of all, YES IT DOES CONTROL THE AMPERAGEThis one of the few pedals that is metal and not plastic. The spring is appeared to be too stiff, until I had my boots on and actually used it. With the added weight of a boot on my foot the spring tension is just about right, and I'm glad it has the heavy spring now. If it was a lighter spring you would have to hold your foot up because the spring would not have a enough tension to support your foot. The dial on the side is to set the maximum amperage you want at full pedal. The dial is does not have amperage markings. It has numbers like 10 through 100 and corresponds to a percentage of your welder max output that you want when the pedalis fully depressed. For example, If you set the dial @ 50, that is 50% of the welders max output. So if your welder is a 200A welder with the dial Sat @ 50%, you will only get 100A when the pedal is fully pressed. It is just a rough Max setting and NOT a precision absolute value. It would be pointless to have exacting numbers because when you are welding you have absolute no way of knowing what the amperage is tour actually welding at anyway. All you know is, I need more heat, so you press harder or if you need less amperage because you're too hot and close to burn through, you raise you foot accordingly. So it doesn't make any sense to make it a precision setting like the one on your machine when not using the pedal because because it's not variable without the pedal so you need an absolute setting.TIP... DO NOT JUST SET IT AT 100 and just leave it there and adjust it. It you just set it @ 100 all the time you will not have a fine control of the amperage. For example, let's say the max travel of the pedal is 2" and you just leave it at 100 the pedal will onlhave that same 2 inches to control the welder at maximum power ( press one inch get 100 amps) however if you're welding thinner material and you set it at 50% that same 2 inches of travel now is set to 100A max, press one inch get 50 amps so there is much more control of the 100A (it can only go to 100A if you twitch vs. 200A and blow through your material. Just remember you will always have that same 2 inches (didn't measure the actual travel just a reference) to control the welders max. Sorry so long...The reason some reviews say it does not control amperage is because they didn't set the welder to use the pedal. There is a setting on the TIG200ACDCP that need to be turned ON or it would only act as a ON/OFF switch likebyour trigger It should have been noted with the pedal but they didn't include any paperwork. But to their defense, if you read you manual you got with the welder it does tell you that to use a pedal you need to turn the remote setting ON.It can be used with other welders IF your welder uses a 5-pin connector & you know the pin-out of your machine, because it is easily opened and the wires moved to corresponding pins to match your welders needs. 2 pins are the trigger switch & the remaining 3-pins are the potentiometer (10K) for amperage control.

I love that the peddle works with the plasma cutter two works great for the Tig

Great welder great price

If you bought the welder I love mine it works like a dream I’ve had it for 2 years. Not use the plasma yet but the welder has not given me an issue yet and I take it with to repair art and sculptures on site

Nice accessory.

Use on my TIG welder. Gives easier control to the welding process.

Awful/absent documentation, works fine once you RTFM for the welding machine

While this actually is a fully functioning variable amperage pedal, it took me over a month of owning this thing and a professional welder friend to mess around with the pedal and machine before figuring it out. The pedal itself came with no documentation, so I just presumed that it would work if you plug it into the socket where the torch button otherwise would have been plugged, and it would work as designed. No such luck.If you see the attached picture from the manual, "Press the knob keep 3 s, 'REM' light is on..." - the English in the welding machine's manual is so incomprehensible that even though I read it cover to cover 3 times, I couldn't understand it. It would have really helped if the pedal came with some documentation, even just the one line out of the main manual that tells you how to enable remote control on the machine.Long story short, to turn this pedal from an on/off switch to a variable amperage pedal, you need to hold the button down on the main selector knob for 3 seconds until you see a light come on next to "REM" in the upper right of the control panel.Once enabled, max amperage is controlled from the little knob on the side of the pedal, no longer on the machine itself. Not a great design IMO, you need to crawl under your workstation anytime you want to change the max amps on your machine. After enabling remote control on the machine and setting max amps on the pedal, the pedal works as designed. The pedal is a touch expensive for what it is, and the product as a whole, including the welding machine is held back by terrible documentation.*After* figuring all of this out, the tig welder along with the pedal seems to perform just about as well as any other inverter machine in this price range, which means it is good.I get it, it's 2020 and just about everything is designed and made overseas, but if you are selling a (not cheap) product that you want to actually compete in the US market, you need to hire someone who is a native English speaker with a college degree to proof read your instructions, otherwise you'll end up with review after review of unsatisfied customers who tried to RTFM but couldn't understand the F-ing thing.

Works as advertised

Works good as advertised. I ended up cutting the housing to angle it more and relocated the dial to my welding cart ( a few times I changed setting with my foot ) and changed the cable to come out the other end . Now it’s perfect .

Cheap construction and switch broke after just 3 months

The construction is cheap and workmanship is lacking. The limit switch used to start the arc broke after 3 months of occasional use. With a little modification and replacement of cheap components it is serviceable. So buy this if you want a project. Or order a better pedal if you just want to weld.
