RUFFWEAR, Top Rope Dog Collar, Reflective Collar with Metal Buckle for Everyday Use

The good: it looks pretty, and it's a "premium" brand so if conspicuous consumption is all your care about it, then sure go for it.The bad: it's advertised as a superior locking "talon" buckle, ballasted weighted metal safe secure reliable, keywords like that. Instead i got a trip to the vet.Trislide is metal, doesn't stretch, and has oversized slots for collar to feed through; collar is nylon, thin, stretches easily. Expect to retighten frequently, sometimes midwalkBuckle has simple interior dual lever locking system, with riveted outer shell. They had to make it look cool by applying minor curves and size adjustments to the whole thing to make it look, i assume, like a talon. Result is if one lever has more pull than the other, it snaps loose, and the remaining one snaps loose soon after it doesn't have a balance.The collar will stretch and snap loose eventually. Not If, but when. Mine killed a raccoon when this happened. Vet bills, rabies boosters, a missed day of work, 3 days waiting for rabies results on the corpse before my dogs got to leave the pound. City would've forced them euthanized had raccoon been positive, didnt matter that they were current on shots.Customer service gave me free replacements. I should've made them foot the whole bill, but I was trying not to be a jerk. Before I risked my dogs again, i examined the new collars they mailed me, and easily reproduced the failure using little effort.Worst. Collar. Ever.

I'm a huge fan of Ruffwear products and all of my other Ruffwear gear has performed perfectly. I'm not sure if the item I received is defective, but over the past months, the collar has randomly unclipped itself during walks and hikes. One minute my dog is safely on a leash, then suddenly she's wandering in the neighbor's hard and I'm wondering how she got over there when we're supposed to be connected....oh wait, her collar is connected to the leash but my dog isn't connected to her collar. The last straw was this past week when we were hiking, and her collar unclipped; she ran straight towards an electrified fence (because there was a duck on the other side she wanted to say hi to). My dog is 65 lbs and we bought the medium/purple. Except for the fact that it's a safety hazard, the collar fit and looked great.

UPDATE: I have taken my 2 star rating down to a 1 star rating. I am continually disappointed in this collar. Maybe I will contact the sellar and see if there is something defective with my collar. It is still falling off. If my dog were to escape, which is mainly the purpose of having the collar, then I have zero to little confidence that this collar would stay on. However, the collar has never come off during normal walks and pulling while on leash.I was really excited to buy this collar, as it looks nice and has a nice metal clasp. Also, the brand ruffwear appears to be a good brand to buy from. But with this particular collar, I have been disappointed with the result. I purchased this 2 months ago and the collar has fallen off twice. The clasp does not appear to be damaged or loose, but yet it is falling off my dog during regular wear and roughhousing. I purchased the K9 Explorer collar for my other boy and his collar has not fallen off once. Plus that collar was half the price here on amazon. Needless to say, I am disappointed that the collar is not holding up better.

I'll be honest and say, I bought this collar for it's fancy design. I have an adorable basenji mix who looks absolutely regal when wearing it. I bought the purple one. However, like many reviews have pointed out, the buckle clasp is too precarious to trust as a daily walk collar. The metal "pushes" on the clasp could easily be pushed by a pulling dog and release (thereby freeing your beloved dog) into a number of dangerous situations.I have a slip lead to avoid that and use the collar simply as a nice looking accessory that has a nice thick reflective strip. But I would never put any faith in the buckle. It too easily comes apart. Ruffwear really should redesign the opening clasp to that it's much harder to push by accident or a rambunctious dog.

Excellent service, however, what I thought was a bad collar is actually the way the collar is. The buckle is hard to undo. The last collar I tried repeatedly to open and close thinking it would get easier, but no. The new one has the same problem. It has to be returned. Please see the video as to how difficult it is to open. It’s a shame because I got the collar to go along with her harness. The collar is beautiful and appears sturdy. It’s just to hard to open the buckle.

I've only had this collar for a couple of months but I can say that I will likely never buy anything else because of the adjustible leash attachment point. Why all collar's don't have this is crazy. This feature allows you to keep the leash point at the top of the collar on the back of the dog's neck, while the heavier collar clasp is on the front of the dog's neck under it's head. By doing this you don't have to reach under the dog and find the d-ring leash attachment point every time you go out, it's fight there on the collar right behind the head and easy to snap on the leash. And then using Ruffwears clever push to open clasp and it makes hooking up your dog a one handed breeze.

I bought the medium, but even at its smallest, it was just a tad too big. Fortunately, I have a senior dog who is a little bigger and it fit perfectly. I then ordered the small and what a great fit. I really like the hook for tie outs being separate from where you put their tags. I have been extremely hesitant about any collar that has the quick release, but this is very well designed. When the time comes, I will definitely be ordering another collar from this company. Great product!

The plastic tighteners that adjust the length are cheap and rubbish, with even the smallest pull they loosen the collar. For this reason it defeats the point of having a metal clip lock on the collar if the plastic adjusters can easily slip and allow the dog to slip their neck out of this collar.

We have a 10 month old Sprocker who's very active. Trying to clip him on can be a pain in his older collars but this one is thicker and the clip point is movable which is awesome idea.We have a ruffwear harness for him too and the build quality of the products is perfect

Pricey but nice. My dog looks good. The last one of these ruff wear collars frayed after perhaps two years.I would prefer one made with natural fibres but I buy these as I know I can send it through the washing machine. Handy when your dog has found something nasty to roll in!

Great collar. First Ruffwear collar that I have bought. Love the Green colour - it really stands out on my mainly black collie pup. The best part is the lead attachment staying at the top when he is off lead which means I can easily locate it when I need to put him back on the lead. Being a BC he has very long hair in the collar area and I struggled to locate the ring on his previous collar. Bonus that it is reflective as well although that is not as important to me because he has a very reflective lead.

Pleased how secutre this collar is and that the adjustment does not slip, an excelent product even if its a bit pricey.
