Big basic tone- begs to be played
I have an acoustic dean bass and overall liked the quality of the build enough to get another when it came time to get an electric. I couldn't decide between 5 string models and active pickups etc.., this model had a nice sale from Amazon so I took a chance. I like the size of the neck and frets and feel of the wood. I expected lower action on the neck for metal chords but this can be adjusted at the bridge. Nice design for standing and playing, you can find ways to play it sitting down by locking over your leg. The weight is just right especially if you want to play with your headstock pointing at around 1 to 2 o'clock. Obviously you can adjust the neck for bow with the included hardware, and you many bassists will want to switch strings immediately. For now the stock strings are fine as is the pickup but I can see wanting to upgrade down the line. The frets were a little unpolished on the ends as made in china guitars often are, a little to sharp for fast up and down fret playing without a micro sanding. I also had to tighten the hardware under the volume knob by removing it. One other note the jack is on the front of the guitar and a right angle cable works best. Loving this bass otherwise.

Great cheap bass
I got this because I really wanted the Flying V style, but don't like the Gibson/Epiphone headstock. I'm also a big fan of Dean guitars. I've really enjoyed playing this thing. It does take a little adjusting as it hangs totally different than a normal bass shape, but once I got my strap set right, I've had no issues. Haven't had a chance to really crank it up and see how it sounds through high the big amp, but I'm not too worried. Most of my playing is through headphones or low volume anyway. I'll probably end up replacing the tuners as they don't seem to hold too well and the finish is a little shaky, but I pretty much expected that on a $200 bass. All in all, lots of fun, and looks great.

AWESOME BASS
I bought this bass as a gift for my fiancée. I asked him what kind of review i should do. He told me 5 stars. He has played bass for a long time. He said that he put Dunlop Robert Trujillo signature seried strings and changed out the stock, soap bar pick up for an EMG. He said you would know what he means. He says, that the sound out of the box was really good but he had it set up to his specs. oh yes also, he said he changed the bridge too. cant remeber.. Tune something..lol :-) srry guys.. he would recommend this bass to bassists of all levels. hope this helps

Poor quality - Buyer Beware
The unit I received was returned immediately. There was pre-existing damage on the bottom wings of the V. This bass was obviously not new and was handled previously. The tone knob was also loose and spins freely within the body I tried to remove the knob and tighten the locking nut underneath the tone knob but there was no improvement.... It would have to be repaired by a professional guitar shop. I did tune it up and play it some... It sounded fine. The action was not bad but there was quite a bit of fret buzz. But with pre-existing damage and the quality issues I would place the value of the bass I received at around 50-75 dollars. I do not think I would order another Dean Product without carefully inspecting it first.
