what is alpha tagging, also is this still the best value for money unit

Hi Mr T- Alpha tagging is a name you can give to a channel or frequency that you have found or listen to regularly. It helps you keep track of what your listening to. Having named your favourite channels or frequencies makes them easier to find again, and saves time scanning through a block of frequencies trying to find something you heard a few days ago etc. So Alpha tagging is just the ability to name a frequency or channel. This scanner is a good piece of kit and is good value for the money. I use it mainly for aircraft and marine band listening. If you have a pad or smartphone you can download apps that allow you to see the plane or ship you are listening to. Flight Radar and Marine Traffic are the apps I use. The scanner can be awkward to use and I complained to Uniden about how the user experience could be improved. Once you get your head around the menus it's a capable little scanner. You cannot use it while it's connected to the charger though. Nice little scanner but has a fiddly and awkward menu system. Hope this info helps you.

is there an in-car charger and a mains charger for the alt 125? Thanks

Hi John. A UK mains charger is included (and USB charge lead). Currently we don't have an in car charger. However, most USB in car chargers will suffice. These are very common and easy to get.

Are the tuning steps on this unit fully suitable for the UK? Am new to scanning, long time lapsed Ham.

This scanner covers all UK including air band, local taxes , cb radio, ham bands etc etc.

Can you program all 500 channel to the civil airband frequency range

Yes, but it does not have an 8.33 kHz AM filter so you can get upto 3 channels on the same frequency. You'd need to spend a lot more money for a scanner that does the VHF Airband properly.
