Q: What is the difference between the mh27 and mh27UV

Two differences1) Both MH27 and MH27UV have a main white LED. MH27 has auxiliary Red Blue and Green LED while MH27 has auxiliary Red Blue and UV LED.2) MH27UV came out almost 6 months after the MH27 and has implemented many circuit reliability improvements.

Q: How do I get this light out of standby/charging mode?

To charge it, the light must be on before you plug in the micro usb. It can be “on” in any brightness setting. When you plug in your chargi cable, the flashlight will turn off. When you unplug the cable, the light will resume to whatever setting you had it in before you plugged it in to charge. To check the battery level, with the flashlight off hold town the + / - keys and press the tail cap switch as if you are turning it on. Instead of turning on, the + / - switches themselves will blink with a blue backlight to indicate charge level. There will be a series of blinks, then a pause, then another series of blinks. So if you see 3 blinks, a pause, and then 7 blinks, your batteries are at 3.7 v. There’s no other standby or charging mode, so I’m not sure why you are having trouble turning it on. A press of the tail cap switch should turn it on for you. Make sure the light is screwed together tightly enough that the battery makes good contact on both terminals.

It sounds like your flashlight may possibly be malfunctioning. The flashlights are warrantied and easily replaceable. Over the past five (5) years I have purchased four (4) of these Nitecore flashlights and have had no problems. In fact, with normal periodic use, I have never even had to recharge the battery.
