Is this product similar or completely different than the Nite-Ize gear ties?

Similar. It doesn't have the nice little ends that the Nite-Ize has, but with the gear snake you can cut it to whatever length you need.

how wide/thick is this. I want to insert it into styrofoam pool noodles to make candy canes for Xmas decorations.

1/8” thick or so, but this will not do what you want. This are too flimsy/weak for that. You would be better off with wire coat hanger or a spool if the wire they sell for binding rebar.

How do you realistically cut this item to the desired size? Any specific cutting tool..wire cutters??

Just use wire cutters....works great!
