STANLEY HID0109 HID Spotlight

I live in the woods and every time we let out our dogs for bathroom breaks we need to see where they are and what else is around.This light kicks out an impressive amount of light - limited more by your own ability to see than its ability to throw daylight. We have used this light at least 3 times a day for about 10 minutes constant each time for around a year. Hard to put a number on its actual range but objects 1/3rd of a mile away are easy to see (I am sure you could read by it 1/2 mile or more away). I have used it in daylight to see critters in the trees or through the woods - it is that bright. I did a ton of research and had considered 35-50w HID lights for $400-$1500 - no need. This light is as good as I could hope it to be. Very bright and not unreasonably heavy or large.The battery still holds a good charge. I would say we can run at least 30 minutes without charging. Worth noting that if you are off and on with the power you will use considerable more battery as the initial start-up of the light uses significantly more power at start up.The light has two brightness settings - I am not sure if mine does not work or if there is no real distinguishable difference - but I could not tell you one from the other.The LED's on top work fine at full charge but as the battery runs down they get quite dim. The HID remains at full bright until the battery is low - then it quits. You can restart it a few more times but it does not give much notice of being low. I would prefer the LED's to be in a different position but it is fine as is.I will be getting another one of these - maybe more. They work well and for the price cannot be touched for power or performance (yes - I have been through the candlepower forums to see other options).I will probably build up my own NiMH battery pack when this one finally quits and continue to enjoy this light. But for now it works like it did out of the box with never an issue.UPDATE 11-9-2012Another 1 1/2 years and this remains blindingly bright. The battery life is understandably reduced though still very much usable. Used it recently in the hurricane to evaluate some fallen trees at night. Amazing how much brighter this light appears than the high beam of the SUV at lighting the road. Remains a solid value and strong performer. Will be getting another!

This spotlight is very bright and functions as advertised, except, it has a major flaw! The batteries in the spotlight will not maintain a charge and that makes it a useless items.I first purchased this Stanley Spotlight in early 2013 and by May, it would not keep a charge, so I returned to Amazon for a replacement...which they honored, even though it was beyond the warranty period...WAY TO GO AMAZON!My replacement spotlight arrived in mid-May and functioned properly until this week. It will not maintain a charge and has a life of about 30 seconds.We live in a heavily wooded area and we used the light almost every night when we would take the dogs out after dark to make sure there weren't any critters in the fenced yard before we let them out. The light was only used about 15 minutes on and off. We followed the charging directions and then, one day, it just quit charging fully.We like the light and enjoyed how bright it really was; but, now it's useless.There are other reviews that shows that this light has a similar issue.I will not purchase another Stanley Spotlight!

Yes it is a bit heavy and big, but it provides an extremely powerful light. I bought two for my ranch and this cuts through the darkness better than one of those police lights. Basically it is a portable spotlight and the distance it shines is very nice. However, it is a beam and not adjustable, so not good for trying to light up a wide area.I would have given it 5-stars but the first one I owned lasted only about a year. The failure was not fixable, so I had to buy new lights. I am hoping these last longer. However, the light works well.

After reading several positive reviews of this spotlight, I decided to order one from Amazon with free shipping.It arrived today after ordering it 4 days ago. I actually did read the instructions before I used the light and plugged the AC charger in first for 6 hours before I used the light. The charging LED blinks red at first, then orange and stops charging when the green LED appears.You have to read the other positive reviews on this to get a good feel of how well it really does work. This evening, just a few minutes ago, my wife and I took the spotlight out on our back porch and wanted to see what it would do. It is pretty close to a beam of daylight, no joke! I kept the beam in the trees around our sub division and then lowered the beam on some roofs and a few of the houses about 200+ yards away. Within 30 seconds, our neighbor called us to ask us what new toy we had that was like a light house. This beam lit up their whole house when shining it their way. Our neighbor was in the kitchen and all of a sudden, she thought the sun came back up so she called to ask us what kind of a powerful light I was using.All I can say is this is a great, powerful spotlight. For the money, you can't beat it. Be sure and charge it first, until the green light comes on.The only negative thing I would say if anything would be it is pretty heavy, but I could also say it is solid.Bottom line, if you want a powerful HID spotlight at a GREAT price, don't pass this one up, it's like daylight in your hand up to 1000 yards or more, very pleased with our purchase!

Upon receiving it, it would only work when plugged in and not off internal battery. It rattled so we thought it was broken and sent it back to exchange for a new one. New one arrives and it will only work when plugged in as well. Returning it this time because 2 for 2 don't work...
