ChefLand Ladle, 8-Ounce, Stainless Steel

This is a basic ladle that appears to be what is used in commercial areas. The handle is long and would hang off a jumbo stew pot. The main reason we selected this ladle is because it has no plastic components (we are trying to minimize the usage of heat and plastic in the food arena), and is made of 2 pieces--->therefore, only 1 "seam", which means there is less crap that would get stuck in the seam (which is hard to clean food bits out from). Also, it has the perfect length and balance for whacking smart mouth husbands telling you how to cook. It is made of solid steel and will probably last a lifetime.

So you want to make those big pancakes like they do at your favorite breakfast dive but dumping 2 4-ounce ladles of pancake batter one atop the other just doesn't cut it. You end up with a misshapen two-tone pancake that doesn't brown evenly. You could use a restaurant-type portion-control batter dispenser but, oh, the clean-up! When breakfast (or dinner) is over, I want to throw as much as I can into the dishwasher and be done with it instead of disassembling a single-task gadget and digging batter out of its nooks 'n' crannies. Even your 1-cup measuring cup turns against you when it sinks into the batter while you're waiting to flip a flapjack.With its nice long handle that nestles into the spout on an 8-cup Pyrex measuring cup/mixing bowl, this ladle does the job flawlessly. It waits patiently instead of playing hide 'n' seek under the batter, and it dishes up a perfect cup of batter that spreads into a perfectly round pancake. Then it joins the rest of the team in the dishwasher and comes out immaculate. Hanging from the pot rack the rest of the time, it tells the world that a serious pancake flipper (who makes his batter from scratch) lives here.

I measured the capacity of this ladle using three different measuring cups and each time the ladle held only around 6 ounces instead of 8 ounces. I even tried weighing the material with the same result. The equivalent weight of the material corresponded to a volume of only around 6 ounces.I tried holding the ladle level and carefully filled it so that the surface tension of water showed a bulge above the rim. That volume was only 6.75 ounces.All of the other ladles I have are spot on. I even filled the 6 ounce ladle and put that into this ladle and it did indeed fill it to the rim.I then did some volume calculations based on the dimensions of this ladle and the volume came out to be 6.8 ounces which is close to the volume when I filled the ladle above the rim as described before. I am sure there are some slight inaccuracies in the measurements, but they are not big enough to greatly affect the results.So, this is not an 8 ounce ladle.

This is just cheap, cheap, cheap. It's made in India, and a lot of their small stainless steel items aren't very high quality, from what I have purchased over the years.They call it heavy duty, absolutely not, you can bend the bowl of the ladle. They say it's one piece, it's not, it's spot welded in three very tiny spots welding the bowl to the handle.Don't buy this, you won't be happy with it. I got this on a lightning deal for $5.50 or so, and it's an item that is actually worth $1.00. All Clad and WMF are two manufactures that will give you a ladle that will last you a lifetime.

I needed a big, utilitarian ladle for soups, and this is perfect. The "bowl" portion is huge, not like the wimpy plastic ones I've had in the past. The flip side of this is that it's so big when I put in my utensil drawer the drawer won't shut. An inconvenience, but I just keep it in my big pots and pans cabinet instead. And it's worth for the great capacity. The hooked end is an extra nice bonus. Would order again.

I bought this because I just needed a regular ladle. Since it isn't something I use often, I decided not to buy the All Clad version. I wasn't too impressed by the quality of the bowl. You can squeeze the bowl and the frame would bend. I've never been able to do that with my other All clad tools. The handle seems sturdy enough. Overall, I'll hang onto it till it breaks. Then switch back to my tried and true.

Same as most other reviewers, I wanted a nice, LARGE soup ladle for the cauldrons of soup we seem to be making and canning lately.. lol. It definitely fits the bill and at a full cup I can see this being handy in a whole bunch of ways. Quality isn't "professional grade", looks more hand made than assembly line (you can decide if that's good or bad), but at the same time for the price and what we'll be using it for it's sufficient and if the stainless steel is decent it may outlast us. The quality of the SS remains to be seen - I've seen plenty of "SS" bbq grills rust to pieces in 2 or 3 years. I'll be interested to see how this does in the dishwasher.

I was very irritated to find that this ladle has words/numbers stamped on it. It did not mention this in the description at all. I wanted a plain, sleek, stainless steel ladle and I got one that looks like it would be used in a restaurant. Not happy with this purchase. Conveniently for the seller this item cannot be returned for free, so I'm either stuck with it or I lose money on the return.
