Merlot heavy
Product: CALVET PRESTIGE BORDEAUX ~ 80% Merlot/20% Cabernet SauvignonSimilar to the current stock image above, the 2016 version I received also carries a ‘GOLD Wine winner’ sticker (1st image below refers).Based on the Amazon product description, at time of order, I was expecting a Cabernet Sauvignon dominance, so this blend was not as fruity as expected…the plummy side more than tipped by a dry, peppery finish that lingers.Nevertheless, this full-bodied wine went down well at an ‘EAT n TREAT’ event this August Bank Holiday weekend, when the weather was downright miserable. Instead of a crisp dry white, with pizza & a fresh green salad in the garden, this red was warming company with various dishes more associated with autumn & a platter of cheese to wind up.From the back label:🍷Enjoy this Merlot-Cabernet-Sauvignon with specialities from Bordeaux: duck confit, truffle or meat in sauce🍇~ 2016~ 13.5 % vol~ GLASS BOTTLE~ 75 cl~ SCREW TOP‘Product of France’The 6 glass bottles arrived safely in a strengthened, segmented cardboard box.The deep RUBY RED coloured wine is presented in a prestigious looking GREEN coloured glass bottle that stands around 30 cm high, with a CREAM/RED/BLACK label and a touch of GOLD colouring, also highlighting an impressive ‘200 years’.The neck is embossed with the CALVET logo and the quality screw top is in RED & GOLD and twists easily without leaving any rough edges.

Full bodied, fruity and a nice drop of wine (2016)
A very nice drop of red wine, being full bodied and quite fruity. I am afraid that I am hopeless at detecting the different flavours, overtones and essences, however I do at least know a decent glass of wine. I would place this wine in the category of a mid priced wine in a supermarket; certainly not at the budget end, but neither is it at the top end. In terms of purchases for the home, I tend to pay between £7-12 a bottle, with the lower price being for social drinking and the higher amount being for a supper party or similar. I could pay more, but to be honest, it would be wasted on us.So how did we test this wine? We invited a few friends around and shared a couple of bottles with them and asked their opinion, in particular to determine whether it agreed with ours. May I say that whilst there were various opinions, generally no-one thought it was a bad wine and all would quite happily drink it. A couple said that it tasted far better than they thought it would based upon having a "sniff" and I would agree with that. Overall then a reasonable wine.So why have I given it 5 stars? It must be because I am a Vine reviewer, right? Actually it isn't. This is a very drinkable wine, no it isn't perfect, but it is a very good bottle of wine, particularly the 2016 we received; suggesting that it matures well over a couple of years, but I am not sure I would keep it for much longer. It is rich and tastes better than the scent suggests (not sure why people smell it, but......), but actually it is pretty good and is as good as anything else you will buy around this price, in fact, having done a bit of research, this wine normally sells retail in the UK for a over a pound a bottle more than Amazon's price of £7.31 (31st August 2018) making it a bargain at this price I feel.In summary, a very nice bottle of red wine and sufficiently good for me to have purchased another case. Definitely one for an easy supper with friends, or just to enjoy. Good value.

What's not to like?
This wine has a lovely flavour and we found it great with cheese. Six bottles for £43.87 which works out at just over £7 per bottle has to be great value. We found the flavour smooth and not overpowering as the heavier Bordeaux can be. Very nice wine for the price.

A bargain quality wine 🍷
This was tested with a group of friends last night and was a total success.Having holidayed in the Bordeaux often we are fairly familiar with wines from this region. This blend is 80 Percent Merlot and 20 Percent Cabernet Sauvignon which is a new blend for us - totally tasty.I think the price of £43 for a case of 6 is amazing - this wine could demand a much higher price tag. In a supermarket around £12-£15 in a restaurant over £30 - so grab this bargain.I would recommend this wine for meals or to drink on it’s own with snacks etc. Full, fruity bodied wine.

Buy with confidence
This wine is a pleasure to drink. Full bodied, with a soft mellowness, particularly if allowed to breathe properly, (and perhaps decanted to give good aeration).Exceptionally well balanced, this wine can be bought with much confidence, and will not dissatisfy the most critical of wine lovers. It is not too robust, so will add extra dimension to most food as it has a wide range of tolerance for many flavours. This is very good value for money, and could easily hold its own on a product 50% more expensive. a Cabernet Sauvignon of great taste and elegance
there is a little legend on the label that says it all : "I carefully selected the grapes from the most reputable vineyards from Bordeaux. Elegant and velvety this Bordeaux rouge is full of Character. I wanted to create a perfect representation of its three grape varieties"Well there is no arguing with that! The wine is rich in colour, flavour and satisfaction, the perfect accompaniment to almost any meal especially one that features red meat ( or any meat really. Its playful seriousness can be enjoyed all by itself after it has had a little tie to breathe and refresh itself...
